Unabridged Bookstore

One of my favorite bookstores in Chicago! The books are usually new so they’re full price but they have a large sale section as well. But honestly what made me fall in love is the employee review of the book throughout the store! It’s one of my fav things about bookstores to see what other recommend across genres and Unabridged does it right! I absolutely recommend stopping in to check it out!

Unabridged is a book lovers’ dream in Chicago, and my recent experiences perfectly capture the essence of this exceptional bookstore. The diverse selection caters to every literary taste, making it a go-to destination for bibliophiles. During Halloween season, I found myself drawn to Agatha Christie novels, and Unabridged had a fantastic collection. The staff's willingness to go the extra mile became evident when I was searching for a specific book on setting boundaries. Although not in stock, they promptly ordered it for me. While there was a minor mix-up with the book versus workbook ordered, the Unabridged team handled it with utmost professionalism. They quickly rectified the situation, ordering the correct book and seamlessly exchanging it at no additional charge. This level of customer service, combined with their diverse book selection, makes Unabridged a standout bookstore. Five stars for an outstanding blend of variety and exceptional service!

I came in 4 minutes before closing. I was welcomed kindly, directed to my book, and walked to the shelf. I was not expecting such wonderful hospitality, especially as one of the last customers of the night. I ran to the store to make it on time (nothing more motivating than running to a new book) and the staff was “glad I made it.” So sweet!

I was so glad to find this wonderful independent bookstore. The store is bigger than it looks from the outside and they have a large selection of all kinds of books. I went for travel books and they have the best travel book selection I have seen - they have all the standards (Rick Steves, Lonely Planet, Fodors, Eyewitness and more) as well as some less well-known brands and a number of specialty books. And they have a full selection of travelers' language books. I found exactly what I wanted. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A great place for books!
